W+10 Photography

It’s always a good day when you get to make pictures and hang out with talented photographer friends! That’s me on the left, with Gwen Parsons and Vern Poole, spending another fine Sunday at the Bealeton Flying Circus in northern Virginia.

My first camera (a Canon AV-1) was a high school graduation present from my parents, but I’m sure the seed of photography was planted well before then, influenced by the poignant works of Pulitzer Prize photojournalists like John H. White and Jack Dykinga that appeared daily in Chicago newspapers in the 1970s. And it certainly took hold after viewing the renowned images of National Geographic and the elegant landscapes of David Muench and Galen Rowell.

Like most aspiring amateur photographers, I work on my skills and my images when I can, with the goals of steady improvement and capturing a great image or two each time I go out to shoot (now with two Canon R6s, assorted lenses and an iPhone 12 Pro). Some of my best images are on this website; I hope you enjoy the current ones and those coming in the future.

And in case you were wondering…the website’s title is a unique contraction of my name. Back in the mid-1990s, an Air Force colleague grew tired of misspelling my last name in emails, notes, etc., so he shortened it to “W+10,” and I’ve gladly carried that callsign to this day!
