Every spring, several dozen saucer (or tulip) magnolia trees at DC’s Smithsonian Castle flood the garden area with a sea of pink and white blossoms. Like the more famous, nearby cherry blossoms, the trees have a short peak bloom period, usually just 6-10 days that can be shortened considerably by rainfall, cold temperatures and winds.
